Organizing your personal space is more important than we think. It is something we tend to do. Have you ever noticed how when you walk in a room in your house and it is a bit of a mess, due to not enough time or just too many things and you don’t feel very good inside? You have this unsettling feeling, which makes you start feeling a bit stressed, or even a lack of motivation, so you choose to just not be in that room. You think to yourself, I will deal with that later. Later becomes week, months or even years.

There are so many benefits to organizing your personal space, especially when you are feeling stressed, anxious or even depressed.

De-cluttering can help with the following:

  • Stress relief, which leads to feeling calm, which leads to better sleep.
  • You feel more focused in a clean area.
  • De-cluttering often helps you get rid of bad habits
  • You learn how to let go of things, which can turn your life around and be calm.

Many years ago, I came up with a service called “The De-clutter Detox” where I use the 3 C’s to help with the process.

here is where you take a section of the room you wish to organize and take everything out and start clearing away the things you no longer need or want.

This part can be quite difficult for most, so a trick I use is to make a list of 3. YES, NO, MAYBE. Then clear away the NO pile and go through the maybe pile again. This is where you have to be very honest with yourself. Do I really need this? Does it have sentimental value?  How does it make me feel? If I keep it, will I actually use it?

Ask yourself as many questions as you can to really be able to say truly yes or no

this is actually quite a fun part because this part is completely up to you. What goes with your style and how the function of the room suits you best, as to always make you feel happy and calm, no matter which room you are in.

For example, let’s say you are reorganizing your closet. How would the perfect closet look to you? Do you see it colour coordinated or dresses with dresses and skirts with skirts, do you want things folded or hung. The list goes on and the sky is the limit.

Once you have finished the previous step, you can visualize your space perfectly. This might mean that you have chosen to move some furniture around or need to but certain things to create more storage or space. (who doesn’t love shopping!!!) once you have everything you want, start putting everything in place.

I’m sure you all know what I mean when I say that the feeling you get when it is complete is such a great feeling, like a weight has been lifted off you.

The 3 C’s can be used for any project, big or small.

If you are able to leave 15 minutes aside a day to organize an area of your home, your stress levels will be low and you will see a different you,

Like I always say to my clients, De-clutter your space, de-clutter your mind.
